If I Missed Work Because of a Car Accident, How Can I Get Reimbursed?

After a wreck, most people miss work for a variety of reasons. Sometimes people have to take time off because they need a rental car and cannot get to work, others need to go to the hospital or seek medical attention, while others are in so much pain, they are unable to even get out of bed.

There are primarily two ways to get you reimbursed for the time you missed from work. If you have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) on your policy, you can claim your lost wages by advising your PIP adjuster of your missed time from work when you originally report the PIP claim.

Another way to get reimbursed for your missed time from work is for your attorney to include your lost wages in your demand package to the insurance company. In order to fully document your lost wages, claim your attorney can use the following documents:

  • Paycheck stubs from before and after the wreck
  • Letter from your employer on their letterhead including hourly wage and hours missed
  • Off work note from a doctor for the time missed
